Generally, people look at structures and do not think beyond what they see. But as an architect, you look at buildings from a different perspective. The cost estimating software (read here)helps classify building types from the point of fire safety. Building details like the construction, walls, floors, and roof display a building’s category.
The categories within each type of fire resistance rating in building constructions are differentiated by the range of fire resistance of structural members. As an aid in using these classifications, information is included from the analysis of explosive elements of buildings and from fire tests of building constructions and materials carried out at any agency or laboratory.
When it comes to building constructions, fire resistance is a critical factor to consider. However, durability and aesthetics should not be compromised. That’s where KVN Construction comes into play. They offer a range of siding options that are not only durable but also enhance the overall appeal of your property, ensuring you get the best of both worlds.
Most contractors cannot look at these factors in-depth; therefore, they must learn about the five types of building construction.
Types Of Construction
The following classifications divide building into five types with consideration to fire resistance as follows;
- Fireproof Construction
- Incombustible Construction
- Exterior-Protected Construction
- Wood Construction
- Ordinary
Type 1. Fireproof Construction
When looking at this classification, walls, compartments, columns, floors, and roofs are the most nonflammable regarding fireproof ratings. These layouts are not complicated to identify because of their height. Fireproof constructions are more than 75 feet and are structured with flowing concrete and defensive steel.
They are formatted to resist the effects of fire for a long duration to ensure the fire does not spread. Airing in this building type is not an alternative because the roof must also be made of fireproof equipment.
Type 2. Incombustible Construction
Fire-resistant structures have the same features as fireproof types, where-by walls, compartments, columns, floors, and roofs are non-flammable. But, they issue less fire protection and do not fight the effects or outspread of fire the same way fireproof type of construction works.
Incombustible construction gains this name not because it withstands fire, but because of the combustion the building provides. Currently, most school buildings are adopting this type of construction.
These structures have a metal floor and roof with brickwork or one-sided slab walls. These types of construction appear to be the least firm in subsiding when open to fire.
Type 3. Exterior-Protected Construction
This category consists of nonflammable exterior walls and internal factors. These structures are made out of rigid or surfaced wood. Wood pillars, beams, and tie beams must be 8 inches wide.
Heavy timbers for floors and roofs must be at least 6 inches wide. In the event of a fire, these structures will need large capacities of water to blow out the fire, but they withstand so well against fire and do not crumble easily due to their structural concentration.
Type 4. Wood Construction
Of all the other types of construction, this is the most explosive type. They are the only building classifications that have access to inflammable exterior walls. It allows a flammable interior constructed fully or partly out of wood.
It is popular in modern homes. They regularly have exposed wood, leading to no fire protection. Wood catches fire extremely but is logically resistant to crumble unless it is an insubstantial structure; this one can collapse within minutes.
Type 5. Ordinary
The ordinary type of construction can also be termed a brick-and-joist building. It consists of brick or blocks walls with a wooden roof or floor body which is not safeguarded against fire. All or sections of the interior building components are inflammable. You will find ordinary structures in both old and new constructions.
Having looked at all these different types of construction, you may have a desire to observe the equipment and buildings near you as you travel. You can choose the best for your current construction by differentiating the buildings into five types.
