Rules of Roulette

Roulette is a popular game in casinos across the world, and whether you choose to play European roulette (with a single zero and then numbers from 1 to 36) or American roulette (the same, only with an additional double zero), the rules are pretty much the same (the odds are vastly different, however, so this is what you need to consider if you have a choice as to which version you are going to play).

Speaking of those rules, what are they? Let’s look more into the game of roulette at King Casino and how it works so that when the time comes to play, you’ll know exactly what to do.

The Wheel

As we mentioned above, you will either be playing American or European roulette. The wheels are different depending on the game you have chosen. In European roulette there are 37 pockets, and in American roulette there are 38. The numbers are written around the side of the wheel, and they are alternatively red and black (except for zero/zeros which is green).

When everyone has placed their bets, the croupier will spin the wheel one way and throw the ball the other way. When the ball lands in a pocket, that is the winning number.

The Table

You might not realise there is an actual roulette table, but there, and it is very important. The table contains the same numbers as the wheel. They are lined up in three columns (except for zero), and the rest of the table relates to the various kinds of bets you can place. This table is where your chips will be placed so that the dealer knows who, if anyone, has won once the ball stops spinning.

The Bets

The bets are the most important thing you’ll need to know when it comes to roulette. If you don’t understand what the bets mean, you won’t be able to place them accurately or confidently. So read on for some more information. There are two types of bets, inside and outside, and each one has its own subcategories.

Inside Bets

  •         Straight bets

A straight bet is a bet on the number you think will be landed on. You place a chip (or chips) on the corresponding number on the table. If you win, you’ll get 35/1.

  •         Split bets

A split bet means you bet on two numbers next to one another on the table. You place a chip on the line between them. That pay off is 17/1.

  •         Street bet

Also known as trio bet or three number bet, this means picking three numbers next to one another on the table. Since each row contains three numbers, you place your chip on the outside line. This pays 11/1.

  •         Corner bet

This is also called the square bet or four number bet. Place the chip at the centre of the four numbers you are choosing. The payoff is 8/1.

  •         Other bets

On top of these, there are five number bets and the six line bet, both paying 6/1.

Outside Bets

  •         Red or Black

You can choose either red or black rather than a specific number. At the side of the table there are boxes labelled red and black and you place your chip there. The pay off is 1/1.

  •         Even or Odd

Much like the above, rather than picking a number, you pick even or odd. This is 1/1.

  •         Low or High

You can spread you bet a little more by picking either low or high. A low bet is anything from 1 to 18, and the high bet is anything from 19 to 36. Pay out is 1/1.
