Strange But Possible Reasons For Acne

When you were a teenager struggling with acne, your mother may have told you that these problems would go away once you became an adult. So, it can be frustrating to deal with the same issues that were supposed to be long gone. Yes, acne in adulthood is possible, and there are various reasons for it.

Among the hundreds of reasons are some strange ones that nobody seems to be able to guess. Most people do not realize they are destroying their skin as these activities are often a part of a person’s day-to-day life. If you experience these signs, consult your family doctor today.

Strange reasons for adult acne

  • Fluctuating hormones.

Hormonal factors are some of the most common reasons for adult female acne. Estrogen Tablet and progesterone changes during pregnancy or menopause can cause breakouts. Consumption of birth control pills, stopping consumption, or using an IUD can worsen the condition. Acne can occur after months of these changes.

  • Hairstyling products that touch your skin.

Your hairstyling products are for your hair and not your skin. Therefore, it is not surprising when they touch your skin, such as your forehead, and cause acne breakouts. There is also a specific name for this type of breakout called pomade acne.

Styling products that make their way to your face can clog pores and cause inflammation, redness, pus, and then blackheads and whiteheads. People with bangs may experience acne on their forehead because the hair constantly touches the skin.

  • Desk habits.

When you put your head down on a desk at school or college, the last thing you think about is getting acne from it. However, you do get acne from a dirty desk. If your breakouts commonly focus on the chin, temples, and neck, you should take a look at how you sit on desks. Also, frequently touching your face and neck with your hands can transfer the dirt and oil and clog the skin.

  • Stress.

There has been various research proving the relationship between stress and acne. When you are stressed, your body releases the hormone androgens in a significant amount, which is acne causing substance. The hormone stimulates oil glands and hair follicles, eventually leading to acne breakouts.

  • Facial hair removal.

Removing facial hair has various aesthetic benefits but can cause acne. The products you apply on your face before and/or after hair removal can clog the pores and promote acne. However, be mindful of the itchy bumps after hair removal and do not mistake them for acne. Those are rash and can be relieved with cold compression.
