Nature is giving us everything we need to live: air, food, clothes, furniture, tools, etc. but our throw-away culture is causing significant damage to the environment. Plastic is suffocating life within our oceans and the soil. What we can do? We need to change our behaviour to decrease the impact we are having on nature. You can start it with simple swaps. One of the easiest things is to swap your current products in the bathroom to plastic-free alternatives.
Why start with the bathroom?
Most people are using products for hair and skincare. If we think that all these people over the world are generating daily waste with the cosmetics bottles and containers that are thrown away, can you imagine the huge impact it has on the environment? Fortunately, plastic-free toiletries are becoming more common. Below, you will find 4 products to help you to start your zero waste journey:
Hand soap
Hand soap is one of the things that we use regularly. But most of the time, we buy soap in plastic packaging or bottle. We can swap it for zero waste alternatives, like solid soap packed in paper packaging. It is very easy to find them in any shop. Or, if you still prefer liquid soap, look for a brand that produces them in recycled plastic bottles.
Haircare
Shampoo and conditioner, for example, come in a plastic bottle. You could also swap it for a solid shampoo and conditioner. They last a long time and work as well as the liquid alternatives. Look for a store that can sell them close to you, or in online shops.
Oral care
This is another easy swap: instead of a plastic toothbrush, you could use a bamboo toothbrush. Bamboo toothbrushes are biodegradable and compostable in a few months. Just check if the bristles are also compostable, or take it off before composting the handle. If we change our toothbrush every 3 months, we use on average 300 toothbrushes during our life. Can you imagine the impact it has on our waste?
Cotton buds
Most people think that cotton buds don’t need to be replaced. But the thing is that the small amount of plastic used can be significant after calculating that a lot of people around the world are using cotton buds made with a plastic stick. Bamboo cotton buds are hygienic, and they work exactly like the plastic stick cotton buds.
Sometimes, the eco swaps can be more expensive, but when you think that you are helping nature and saving the planet with these easy swaps, then you realize it is worth it! Using eco-friendly products will lead your future generation to a better future.
